Teachers at our school are certified by the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as required by Wisconsin state law. In addition, they are also certified by the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.  What is a teacher colloquy program? A number of the faculty members have also continued their education by earning a master's degree in education.  All staff members have extra church responsibilities that include organist, handbell choir, Gabriel's choir, senior choir accompanist, youth counseling and celebration worship.

Explanation of Teach Colloquy Program

We have been blessed with two Our Redeemer teachers who have gone back to school to get their Synodical Training to receive their colloquy into the Missouri Synod Roster.  Some questions have been raised about the program.  Here is a short explanation that might help you understand.

The Teacher Colloquy Program is an intense course of study in Christian Education which leads to Synodical certification as a Minister of Religion, Commissioned.  It is a joint program of our Concordia Colleges and Universities. The classes that are taken to meet the requirements are:

  • Old Testament
  • New Testament
  • History of Theology
  • Lutheran Confessions
  • Christian Doctrine
  • Variety of Beliefs
  • The Lutheran Teacher I
  • The Lutheran Teacher II

Upon completion of the course work, advisors from one of the Concordia University System faculties interview the teachers.  Upon approval, the teacher is added to the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Roster.  They are now eligible to be "called" by a congregation in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The teacher does not receive any additional pay for "called" status, but they are strengthened in their service to the children and families of Our Redeemer through the training of the Lutheran Church and it's application to our ministry.

Teachers graduating from a synodical  College or University receive this training as part of their regular course work during the four year work towards a degree.
